Temporary Price Reduction: Was $899, Now $225. Lyra's 1998 and 2000 Office Equipment Surveys of 300 medium- and large-sized offices clearly demonstrate that the majority of office users purchase only OEM supplies for their copiers (see chart). Interestingly, this percentage has increased significantly during the past two years. Sixty-five percent of the participants in the 1998 survey used only OEM supplies for their copiers, but, according to the 2000 survey, 80 percent of respondents use OEM-only supplies for their copiers and 20 percent of the respondents use both non-OEM and OEM copier supplies. This report explores the reasons for the increase in the use of OEM toner, preferred purchase channels for printer and copier supplies, trends in printer and copier output volume, and cost awareness and sensitivity among purchasers of hardware and supplies.
