During the last decade, adoption of color printing in offices has fallen short of vendors' expectations. The perception among users is that color is too expensive, too difficult, and not necessary for mainstream business applications. A Lyra Research report, Adoption of Color in the Office: Market Drivers for Workgroup Color Devices, finds that color is finally gaining a foothold in office printing. Price/performance ratios for color printers have changed significantly in the last year, as vendors continue to address barriers to color adoption.
Lyra forecasts that worldwide workgroup color laser printer shipments will grow from 838,000 units in 2002 to 2.7 million units in 2007, a 26 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) (see figure). Meanwhile, revenue from this class of printers will grow at a 13 percent CAGR over the same period. The report examines the office color market in the United States, Europe, the Pacific Rim, Latin America, and rest-of-the-world region to determine how different office environments, cultures, and economies will influence office color printing.
The report provides the following data and analysis of workgroup color devices:
- trends in product pricing, page costs, and new product introductions;
- an assessment of key color printer vendors targeting the office market; and
