Description

The digital camera market is shifting: the megapixel race continues; average selling price are dropping; and consumer SLR shipments are on the rise. Vendors need the most accurate digital camera market forecast to keep up with these market developments. Lyra's Forecast 360 methodology provides the accuracy that vendors crave. Lyra has created the digital camera market forecast utilizing a comprehensive, 360-degree view of the factors that influence this market segment. Data used to develop this forecast include information Lyra collects from digital camera component manufacturers and other industry contacts, plus Lyra's own consumer surveys, combined with Lyra's extensive experience in analyzing and tracking developments in digital photography.

According to Lyra's newly released digital camera forecast, by 2011 more than three-quarters of all digital cameras sold worldwide will have a resolution of at least 8-megapixels (see figure). For better or worse, sensor resolution has become the defining specification of a digital camera. Since our last forecast iteration, it has become clear that market realities are forcing camera manufacturers to continue offering even higher resolutions, despite the fact that nearly every digital camera currently on the market offers adequate resolution for general consumer needs.

The digital camera forecast is broken out into North America, Latin America, EMEA, Asia Pacific, and Worldwide regions and contains three years of historical data (2004-2006) and five-years of forecast data (2007-2011). The digital camera installed-base, shipments, and revenue are broken out into the following categories:

  • Snapshot <6 MP;

  • Snapshot 6-6.9 MP;

  • Snapshot 7-7.9 MP;

  • Snapshot 8-9.9 MP;

  • Snapshot 10+ MP; and

  • Consumer Digital SLR.

This new 100+ page forecast report contains the full set of figures and charts from the complete digital camera forecast model developed for Lyra's Consumer Imaging Intelligence service.
