Lyra recently released its updated toner cartridge forecast for the years 2007 through 2012. Despite the economic downturn, Lyra forecasts that the total laser printer and MFP installed base and total toner cartridge shipments and revenue will grow through 2012. However, not all segments will experience growth, and the majority of the growth will occur in the color and MFP segments. Although laser hardware installations are growing, toner cartridge shipments are not growing at the same rate. For the last several years, print volumes per machine have been dropping, which affects toner cartridge requirements. However, with increasing installations and declining use, the monochrome toner cartridge market is still expected to grow throughout the forecast period. From 2007 to 2012, Lyra forecasts a CAGR of 4 percent. Separating printers and MFPs, it becomes clear that the greatest opportunity for growth is in the MFP market. Although this market is smaller than the printer cartridge market, its growth is forecast to be more substantial.
