Temporary Price Reduction: Was $299, Now $225.
The consumer printer market experienced solid growth in 2004, with worldwide shipments of all consumer printers increasing from 87 million units in 2003 to 99 million units in 2004 (see figure). Looking at shipments by printer segment shows that there were some major changes in certain market segments between 2003 and 2004. Some of these, such as the growth of the ink jet MFP segment, were anticipated, while others, such as the growth of the personal monochrome laser printer segment, were more surprising.

Today, consumer devices account for the bulk of worldwide hard copy hardware unit shipments but a smaller portion of worldwide hard copy hardware revenue, as prices for consumer printer products are low compared with those of digital copiers and high-end printers and MFPs. This illustrates one of the chief challenges of the consumer printer market-vendors must sell an enormous volume of low-margin hardware in order to realize a profitable revenue stream from the sale of consumable supplies.

Consumer Printing Market: Forecasts, Geographic Trends, Competition, Major Events, and Shifts describes today's consumer printing market, including ink jet printers and MFPs, personal monochrome laser printers and MFPs, and color laser printers. The report examines how users' print requirements are changing and how new print requirements will drive new market opportunities for vendors. Part of Lyra's 2005 Imaging Symposium Series, this report is value-priced at $299, making it a must-read for imaging industry vendors competing in this market space.
