Temporary Price Reduction: Was $299, Now $225. The rapid growth of the PC market in China will ensure the growth of the Chinese printer market. Both markets are driven in part by the Chinese government's long-term development strategies for various regions in China. These strategies seek to stimulate the economic and technological development of traditionally less-developed regions and call for heavy government spending on infrastructure, education, and technology, as well as various programs that encourage private investments. For example, while 60 percent of households in Beijing own PCs and 20 percent own printers, the corresponding percentages in Shenyang are 35 percent and 5 percent. If China's development strategies succeed in developing Shenyang and other cities like it to Beijing's level, PC and printer vendors alike will see sharp increases in unit shipments.
Lyra recently conducted its China Home Printing Survey, a telephone survey of more than 2,000 respondents from eight large cities in China. China: Emerging Markets and Key Players presents selected results of the survey, Lyra's forecasts for the printer market in China through 2008, vendor market-share estimates for the ink jet and laser printer markets, and obstacles to increasing printer ownership in China. This report is essential reading for all imaging industry vendors targeting China. |
