The enormous increase in digital camera adoption has led to the development of the lucrative photo-printing market. The worldwide installed base of digital cameras, expected to exceed 350 million units by 2008, will create a large pool of customers and an even larger pool of digital images that will be captured, stored, shared, and printed (see figure). Where these images are printed is a key issue for printer vendors, retailers, vendors that sell digital printing kiosks and photoprocessing labs, and online photo-printing services.
This report reviews digital camera penetration rates in Europe, the United States, and Japan and provides forecasts for digital camera shipments and the number of images these cameras will capture. The report also projects where these images will be printed-in the home, at retail locations, or online.
